STC Region 2 Conference - Making Cents of Making Sense

13 Oct 2006 - 09:00
14 Oct 2006 - 17:00

Making Cents of Making SenseMaking Cents of Making SenseOn 13th-14th October 2006 the STC is presenting a two day conference that highlights the importance of technical communications to business. Registration is now open. The conference is open to business-minded professionals interested in the value of communication. High-calibre speakers representing IBM, McAfee, the California Institute of Technology and similar organizations are presenting their views on business needs for technical communication. The Conference is taking place at the Hampstead Britannia Hotel, London NW3, and is expected to attract between 125 and 200 delegates from Europe, the US and Israel. The conference is organised under the auspicies of the European, Israeli and US eastern coast communities of the STC which make up the STC's Region 2.

This Regional Conference is aimed at companies in need of technical communication and the people who produce technical documentation.

Communications can make or break a business. Translating technical details into useful language takes the skill of professionals. Communication professionals also need to keep an eye on business needs.

In addition to the conference, the STC Board of Directors is holding its quarterly meeting in London on 12-13 October 2006 to discuss, among other things, global issues in technical communication. Conference delegates will have a chance to mix with the Board members at an evening social event to be sponsored by STC-UK.

Bookings for the event are now open for both STC members and non-members.

Please visit the conference web site at http://www.stcuk.org/R2conf for more details.

We are delighted to be able to offer a special STC membership deal to delegates who pay the non-member price: if you complete and submit your application form to join STC at the Conference in October, you will receive a full rebate of the difference between the member and non-member price, and you will also get 14 months' STC membership for the price of 12 (from 1st November 2006 to 31st December 2007).

Take a look at the Conference Programme page for details of our confirmed speakers (http://www.stcuk.org/R2conf/ConfProg.html). This is going to be one event that you really don't want to miss, so hurry and book now while early-bird discounts are still available!

**Top level STC Conference in London in October 2006**

Several Region 2 STC chapters are actively involved in organising a top level international STC in London in October. This is your perfect opportunity to make a weekend of it and to enjoy some time in London, whilst also keeping your own professional skills sharp.

We have recently updated the web site for our October STC Conference in London on 13/14 October 2006. This exciting conference has now attracted sponsorship from leading names such as Adobe, AuthorIT, Scriptorium Publishing, Ovidius and Clifford Sells. With big names like that behind the conference, we'd recommend you take a look at the conference programme at http://www.stcuk.org/R2conf/ConfProg.html.

The first delegates have booked their places already. You can use the online booking form to book your place at http://www.stcuk.org/R2conf/ConfBooking01.html, and there are special discounts for people who book early. In fact, book before 15 September and you can attend this 2-day professional conference for just £165! (about 250 Euros). We have had a superb response from sponsors for this event, which is enabling us to keep the price this low. But do hurry, because the Early Bird booking discount expires on 15th September and tickets will cost more after that.

Or you can book for just one day: We're running the conference on a Friday and Saturday. So if you're not able to give up part of your weekend, you could just come along for the Friday. Or if workload stops you getting out of the office during the week, you can join us for the Saturday sessions.

We have a range of top-level speakers. Leading names such as Sarah O'Keefe of Scriptorium analysing the business case for XML implementation, Ian Larner of IBM telling us about DITA, James Lawrence of McAfee telling how his tech authoring team work as a business unit, Patrick Hoffmann examining the Return on Investment aspects of usability and information design, and we even have the inside track on the new Windows Vista operating system.......

And besides the straightforward "it makes sense to invest in your own future" aspect of this conference, the amount of new stuff you will learn, the fact that the conference will validate your existing knowledge and remind you how much you know, how much you are worth, there is also the social side to consider. Conferences are wonderful places to make contacts, to extend your social and professional network.

And this STC conference in London will have delegates from across Europe, and around the world. We can guarantee this because the whole of the main STC Board of directors will be over from the US and will be mingling with delegates in London. We are currently working on a spectacular evening event for the Friday night, and we'll announce details of our evening social programme soon.

The conference theme is "Making Cents of Making Sense: Technical Communications and Business". This is going to be a hard-hitting conference that will help YOU deliver good value for money within your organisation, or to your clients. Can you afford to not be there?

Go on... Book now. You know you want to!
