2007-09-24: "Saveurs & Savoirs" with Karen Schriver - Event Report

|

The first event in STC France's new "Saveurs & Savoirs" series on Monday 24 September drew a crowd of about 25 technical communicators to the FIAP Jean Monnet in Paris. The evening event included a networking cocktail and a presentation by award-winning researcher and educator Karen Schriver entitled "If You're So Smart, Why Does Your Writing Suck?" Whether it was the promise of some good food and wine, or simple curiosity to hear Karen present a talk with such a provocative title, I don't think anyone went home disappointed! It was great to see so many new faces, as well as a few regulars. A big thanks to Monika Duvinage for manning the registration desk!

STC France Name the Newsletter Competition: We have a winner!

Thanks to all those who took the time to suggest names and to vote in our Name the Newsletter competition!

We tallied up all the votes and announced the winning name at our "Saveurs & Savoirs" event on 24 September (look out for the meeting summary coming soon).

The winning suggestion was "France Connexion", with almost 25% of the votes.

As it turns out, the winning name was suggested by our own chapter president, Jennifer O Neill. Since the prize for the winning name was to be a free entry to the next STC France Chapter Conference (on 14 March 2008, plug plug), and since Jen will likely be earning her free entry anyway, we decided instead to offer the prize to a randomly selected voter. Our guest speaker, Karen Schriver, selected a name randomly from the list of voters, and we've contacted the winner by email to let them know.
